Statewide California Clean-ups will be held in your area on Sept 20th. In Sonoma County Sierra Club is cleaning Dunes Campground Beach. See Outings write-ups below for Sept 20th. Russian River Clean-ups will follow. ******** Congratulations to the Coastwalk participants who are hiking the California Coastline. They started June 3rd at the Oregon border and will finish on Sept. 22 at the Mexican border. I joined Marsha Taylor and one day hiker Heather Baldini (our Sonoma County beach clean-up coordinator) at Bodega Bay to present Coastwalk with a certificate from Redwood Chapter. The vivacious walkers are spreading the word that about 35% of our coastline is off limits to the public. Good luck to them for getting great media attention. Follow their progress at www.californiacoastaltrail.info. ******** Do you have an interest in exploring and enjoying wild places? Do you want to meet people who share your love for the outdoors? Prospective leaders, we have several chances for you to become a certified Sierra Club outings leader. Check the schedule for one near you. These are only held 2 or 3 times a year so take this opportunity to come on board. ******** |
Introducing two enthusiastic new leaders from Del Norte County! I hope to get up there some day to hike with them. Al Muelhoefer has had a love affair with the outdoors all his life! Having lived and hiked from Luxembourg to Hawaii, he enjoys sharing experiences with nature and has usually found the local hiking club. He moved recently from the Midwest to Klamath and is retired. Al is a volunteer with the Redwood National & State Parks and is currently developing an extensive trail guide. Jim Barrett fell in love with the rain of Del Norte County and everything it touches. Sea kayaks are his favorite toys. Ocean Rock gardens and Lake Earl are a big part of his life's joys. His wife, his dog and his garden are also good parts of his life. ******** Hope to see you on the Benson Hut work party. We need your help. |
