Human Rights and the Environment:

Defending Those Who Give the Earth a Voice

A Joint Sierra Club - Amnesty International Grassroots Effort

Wednesday, October 11

7:00 - 9:00 P.M.

Environmental Center

404 Mendocino Avenue, Suite A

Downtown Santa Rosa

Over the past several years, environmentalists and human-rights advocates have increasingly realized that they share each other's struggles. Today, there is a growing sense of urgency in the environmental community about the security of our fellow activists who are trying to prevent irreparable damage to the planet's fragile ecosystems.

Through a groundbreaking joint campaign with Amnesty International, volunteers and staff of the Sierra Club's Human Rights and the Environment Campaign are working to defend those activists who are giving the earth a voice. In this era of globalization and multinational corporations, we believe that one of the best ways to protect the earth's environment is to help activists around the world protect the environment in their own communities. Through our collaboration with Amnesty International, we are organizing on behalf of individuals who have been threatened, beaten, tortured and even murdered for their environmental activism.

Please join us for an unforgettable evening as representatives from Amnesty International detail this joint campaign and offer ways in which each of us can join, be heard and stop the abuse of environmental activists around the world.
